We are Recall The Remains a 5 piece Metal band hailing from Telford in Shropshire.
Come see us at a show near you!
The main support are Telford-based Recall The Remains. These guys are a slick and professional example of brutal Metalcore. The quintet fill the stage both physically and with their performance presence, displaying a perfectly cohesive image and attitude. I turn to my mate and point to my Betraying The Martyrs t-shirt; he nods and rightly notes their closer similarity to The Devil Wears Prada. Frontman Jacob Collins is an immense vocal behemoth, switching from guttural growls to screeching chattering with ease. His dreadlocks flail as he commands the stage and orchestrates the crowd. Solid guitarwork, stirring bass and constantly varying drums set the landscape for an intense and fierce musical ride. Hopefully Recall The Remains will grace the North West again very soon.
Deadlines is a cracking song. Really good. I love the layered vocals using clean singing backed by uncleans and then reversing that. It’s clever and works. The solo is majestic and there is a nice crunchy riff running through the whole song with a thick bass and strong drums. It’s very nicely put together too. Little metalcore, melodic death metal and deathcore influences come through but Recall the Remains have taken those tried and tested formulas and created something of their own that nods to their peers without copying them. This is a band to keep a eye on. Ill be looking forward to checking out more from the band in what should be a very promising future. (Rated 9/10)
Right off the bat this songs kicks it into heavy gear, the visceral vocal attack from lead singer Jacob Collins is complemented with melodic vocals from backing vocalist and bass guitarist Jordan Barnes. I always think that if a tune can capture you and keep you within the first 10-20 seconds you’re onto a winner and ‘Deadlines’ does exactly that with immediate fist pumping riffs and melody. In short this single is yet another statement that ‘Recall The Remains’ are, and will continue to be, a force to be reckoned with.
Recall The Remains live up to their name. Out-of-this-world Jacob Collins’ scream, that began the first track of the night, Deadlines, could wake up the dead! Alongside the main vocalist, amazingly androgynous Jordan Barnes aka bass and vocals, Zach Bowden and Elliot Rowe on guitars and Anthony Morris on drums took progressive metalcore to the new level of the post-apocalyptic parade of madness.
Welcome to Devil’s Island! You’re all marooned here now until someone comes to rescue you!
You got ship wrecked while sailing the seas on tour. Before you ended up shipwrecked you each grabbed one album that you couldn’t live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Jacob: thy art is murders hate album. It is the band that got me in to deathcore and in the vocals I do
Tony: Slipknots self titled album because Joey Jordison is a major influence for my own drumming. When I first heard the album it opened my eyes to a whole new world of music. Slipknot was the first metal band I ever listened to and it allowed me to explore new genres of music.
Jordan: Evanescence Fallen. This album plays a huge part in my life and makes me feel at home. Our own writing is fully infected with hard hitting catchy chorus mojo when we manage to restrain Jacob for 30 seconds and this album does the very same thing but like no other.
Zach: Master Of Puppets by Metallica. I need those riffs forever.
Elliot Oh, sleepers ‘children of fire’ album. Oh, sleeper have been my favourite band since I first heard them about 8 years ago.
There’s also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to chose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What’s your tipple of choice?
Jacob: jagermeister and energy drinks or just jagermeister neat
Tony: Southern Comfort and Coke as long as we’re allowed mixer. If not neat will be fine since we’re on a desert island I’ll want to be as drunk as possible.
Jordan: G and T because I’m a classy lady.
Zach: Bleach. I’m joking. Get me a JD and coke and I’m cool.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to sleep in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each choose?
Jacob: when Infant Annihilator dropped their album “The Elysian Grandeval Galèriarch” I fell in love with that album cover
Tony: Tough one it would have to be something interesting to look at as I’ll be seeing it every night before sleep so I’d say Drift by Erra the imagery is really cool to look at.
Jordan: Nightwish Endless Forms Most Beautiful. Getting lost in album art whilst lost on an island sounds interesting. I’d appreciate the irony.
Zach: All Our Gods Have Abandoned is by Architects. I like the simplicity of the design.
Elliot ‘language’ by The Contortionist. Very pretty to look at.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. Whats the merch and for what band?
Jacob: if it was just a top then it would be my “doggie style first” top by emmure or my carnfiex hoodie
Tony: Not a band but it has to be my Download Festival hoody got to stay warm at night you see. Plus it’s from the first festival I ever attended.
Jordan: My RTR shirt of course! I kid, probably my Tesseract shirt, The night I saw them in birmingham was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen.
Zach: I Like Tony’s idea so I’m going with my Affiance “Gaia” hoodie. It’s soft as hell and so warm.
Elliot My Dorje hoodie. Very comfy for those chilly beach nights.
There’s a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Jacob: the mitch Lucker memorial show. It was amazing to watch so many musicians come together and perform some of suicide silences songs
Tony: Lamb of God Killadelphia. Love lamb of god so much Chris is another one of my favourite/influential drummers. Plus The Subtle Arts of Murder and Persuasion is pure perfection.
Jordan Nightwish @ Wacken open air. It’s a show I can watch time and time again. I’d need some nice harmonies to listen to whilst the others go tribal.
Zach: Speaking of tribal, I’m going with Metallica Live in Seattle. That show looked INTENSE
Elliot The Contortionist live in Birmingham amazing gig.
You’re getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the one musician most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Jacob: as i lay dying’s tim lambesis because he is an absolute tank
Tony: Darly Payne from Elyrean he’s my bro and has helped me out many times I know he would have my back.
Jordan: Chris from ADWA, always super helpful and will sort you put of you have a problem. Plus that double bass skill, I’m sure hes a boss swimmer..
Zach: Satchel from Steel Panther. I’m sure he knows how to motorboat…
Elliot Ben from At Dawn We Attaxk
[This one’s a bit dark, but intended to be light hearted] You’ve been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There’s only one thing for it… which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Jacob: I second my drummer, elliot wouldn’t put up too much of a fight
Tony: Elliot, he wouldn’t put up much of a fight.
Jordan: I’d sacrifice Jacob. I’m sure hed appreciate the angelic attention.
Zach: Sorry Elliot, I want those guitar skills.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Jacob: cj mcmahon from thy art is murder, I love the band, I love CJ as a person and a musician as his songs have meaning and depth behind them and he never takes himself to seriously on stage
Tony: Chris Adler laid back down to earth guy and he’s a beast behind the kit
Jordan: Amy Lee of Evanescence. Her music has been with me through everything. No matter where I am this lady could bring me back to where I need to be.
Zach: James Hetfield. He is the reason I started playing guitar.
Elliot: Deryck Whibley because Sum 41 was one of my favourite bands when I was younger.
Thanks for your time. We hope you get back to dry land before you’re next due out on tour!
